Beabadoobee’s Online Controversy

Indie musician Beabadoobee went viral on the internet due to drama from a TikTok meme. In February 2025, a meme calling Beabadoobee’s singing bad and glorifying the singing of YoungBoy Never Broke Again (NBA YoungBoy) was made. This led to comments and parodies that quickly spread across platforms such as TikTok, Youtube Shorts, and Instagram Reels. Although these memes were made as a joke, Beabadoobee felt personally attacked by it and decided to respond harshly.

In her response, Beabadoobee expresses her frustration with the meme as it contains negative comments. Though she has never seen the actual video, she claims to have read the hateful comments and describes the spreading of the meme as ugly and even misogynistic. The public has responded kindly by defending Beabadoobee and acknowledging the challenges that music artists face on social media such as online harassment. Others, however, argue that Beabadoobee’s response was sensitive and an overreaction since the meme was not supposed to be taken seriously. For this reason, the controversy was most likely a misunderstanding due to Beabadoobee not having seen the actual video.

Aside from Beabadoobee’s disapproval, this drama demonstrates the challenges that aspiring artists face when they try to grow on social media. A controversy that makes someone look bad can quickly spread and lead to harassment. Moreover, this highlights the importance of context in situations as a lack of context can blur the line between jokes and unnecessary critiques. As we live in a world that is absorbed in social media, internet stars must make sure their relationship with their audience is healthy and understanding.

Additionally, XQC, a popular twitch streamer, reacted to Beabadoobee’s response during his stream. He mentions how the meme is funny but also emphasizes how social media is able to escalate such little drama so quickly. He also talks about how Beabadoobee’s ‘overreaction’ is understandable due to the unempathetic online trolls as well as the high pressures that these music artists face.
