KATSEYE’s “THE WILDWORLD TOUR” is set to begin on September 1 in Dublin, bringing the six-member global girl group to stages from Europe all the way to North America. However, amidst the apparent excitement, the tour seems to mark the beginning of a period of unrest and uncertainty for the group. Featuring numerous hiatus and injury announcements, widespread discussion among fans has begun to circulate on the internet.
With the tour potentially becoming one of KATSEYE’s biggest achievements in their musical career, it is no surprise that the official tour announcement made by HYBE x Geffen excited many fans. Yet, with tickets quickly selling out, only four out of six members are currently active within the group.
On February 20, Manon Bannerman announced a temporary hiatus in order to focus on her health and overall well-being. In the official message posted by HYBE x Geffen on Weverse, they stated that despite the hiatus, the group still intended to continue their scheduled activities and fully support Manon’s decision to take a step back from public appearances. However, as of August 30, the company still has not officially offered a return date, leaving many fans with questions and speculations on whether or not Manon is still a part of the group.
KATSEYE’s leader, Sophia Laforteza, followed suit with her own hiatus announcement on August 7. The company has stated that she would temporarily step away to prioritize her mental health and consult with medical professionals. Additionally, on August 30th, HYBE x Geffen shared that Sophia will not be performing in the European leg of “THE WILDWORLD TOUR” from September 1 through September 17.
Already losing two members, the situation only fueled online discourse even more when Megan Skiendiel sprained her ankle during a tour rehearsal on August 27, leading the group to cancel their appearance at Olivia Rodrigo’s “Daisy Chain Fields Festival.”
With all the repeated appearance cancellations and layered hiatuses, online reactions have ranged from concern to speculation. Some people have questioned whether or not KATSEYE’s quick rise to stardom has placed excessive pressure on the members, and whether or not the repeated hiatus announcements are hinting at the group’s eventual disbandment. On the other hand, fans have also urged people not to spread false information regarding the causes of disappearances, arguing that the group’s health should take priority over maintaining perfect attendance. For now, “THE WILDWORLD TOUR” serves as both an achievement and a test for the relatively new group.
