West Indies Hit New Low Against Nepal

The ODI World Cup winners of 1975 and 1979, the T20I World Cup winners of 2012 and 2016, the mighty West Indies of old have capitulated of late.

Prior to the humiliating innings defeat in the first test match against India on Wednesday, the West Indies organized a T20I series against Nepal, a team that had never won a match against a test-playing nation.

It was all to change on September 27, 2025. The West Indies were young and rejuvenated, with the end of the CPL meaning plenty of new talent in the national side. As such, five debutants were named in the lineup, and it looked like a perfect platform for the young talent of the West Indies to grow.

Nepal, on the other hand, looked to lock horns against a much stronger side on paper and a much more established country. Having played solid cricket in recent years, Nepal looked to achieve what had never been done before.

A total of 148/8 was set upon the overwhelming favorites, who were the West Indies. Yet, it was 19 runs too much for the new-look side, and a historic win for Nepal. Captain of the West Indies, Akeal Hosein, let his team know that this was just a hiccup before their inevitable success.

It took a humiliation of sorts in the second match to bring panic alarms in the West Indies camp and among supporters. Chasing a target of 174, the former T20I World Cup champions crumbled for a 90-run defeat.

Just like that, they lost what should have been an easy series win and a good opportunity for young players to develop into a 2-1 series loss against Nepal.

The West Indies are now staring down the barrel to find any momentum to grasp onto. For the time being, they have hit a new low since their failure to qualify for the ODI World Cup in 2023.
