On May 14, 2025, Qatar Airways landed its biggest ever deal with Boeing on Wednesday for 160 wide body planes, along with options to buy 50 more. The deal was rumored to be around the price tag of $96 billion dollars.

Also, this deal significantly aided Boeing in becoming more competitive in the aviation industry, staying strong with competing with its main competitor, Airbus. Right after the agreement was finalized, Boeing’s shares in the stock market rose 0.6%, while GE Aerospace rose 0.7%.

In its order, Qatar Airways strategically chose the Boeing 787 and 777-X due to their fuel efficiency, offering a 25% less fuel consumption compared to Qatar’s current fleet.

However, the contract sparked some controversy, with some saying that Qatar Airways reportedly offered Donald Trump a complimentary Boeing 747-8 jet, a move critics say to be a possible case of “influence peddling.”

In the end, Qatar Airlines’ record-breaking purchase was not only a fleet upgrade, but it as well increased the amount of jobs opportunities, benefited multiple companies, helped to reduce global warming, and assisted in a more environmentally friendly solution to fly passengers around the world.
