Gracie Abrams’ new album “Daughter From Hell” just dropped

Rising pop star Gracie Abrams has just dropped her third studio album, “Daughter from Hell,” and there are a lot of opinions. This album covers themes besides the typical trend of romantic relationships in pop music. It follows a narrative of a more mellow and subdued vibe rather than Gracie’s previous upbeat releases. Gracie has mentioned in an interview that the origin of the album title stemmed from being a pestering teenager growing up. As a lover of some of Gracie’s songs (both released and leaked, unreleased ones), this was a completely different direction. I was expecting more edgy lyrics and instrumentals, which was led on by the title. While this isn’t a bad album, I feel that there’s room for improvement. For starters, fans already got a taste of the new album with her pre-release of “Hit the Wall” and “Look at My Life”. The album’s narrative could’ve been better portrayed with the more mellow songs (Hit the Wall and Look at My Life) transforming into more edgier songs that scream ‘crashing out.’ There have also been other images of Gracie standing in front of a fire, which definitely led both myself and other fans to believe that the album would be very different from her past releases. “Daughter from Hell” is a unique album and is very clearly different. On the other hand, there was so much potential DFH had. Gracie could’ve utilized more aggressive types of songs/beats like “all-american b*tch” by Olivia Rodrigo. To be honest, most of the tracks felt pretty similar, not just in vibes but also the melodies. She has her own style, like all other artists, but this album was just too cohesive, almost like it’s morphing into one large song. On the other hand, “Minibar” and “Hit the Wall” are the two main songs that stand out. Both have the faster-paced beats and lyrics she’s better known for, compared to the rest of the slow-paced songs. They stood out well but also felt too different from the rest of the songs. All in all, I still love Gracie Abrams and will undoubtedly be playing DFH on repeat, but I strongly believe that Gracie’s next album will be even better. Some improvements could definitely include having a cohesive message, yet with songs that told different parts of the story, like Olivia Rodrigo’s “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.”
